Páistí sona ag foghlaim le chéile
Happy children learning together
Welcome to Scoil na Seolta!
We are proud to introduce east Belfast's first Integrated primary school, where children are taught through the medium of Irish. At Scoil na Seolta, our motto is ‘Páistí sona ag foghlaim le chéile - Happy Children Learning Together’ and this guiding principle shapes every aspect of our school life.
We foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where children are encouraged to explore new ideas and follow their passions. Our goal is to help every child thrive and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Our dedicated staff, parents and governors work closely together to ensure that each student can grow into the best version of themselves. We are a small school located in the heart of east Belfast, committed to offering the highest quality educational experience in a safe and friendly atmosphere.
We look forward to welcoming you to our vibrant and supportive school community!
Our Story
Scoil na Seolta emerged from the pioneering work of Linda Ervine, Turas and Cairde Turas, promoting the Irish language in east Belfast. Setting up the Naíscoil and the Scoil were the next natural steps for the growing number of people who wanted to access Irish-medium education in the area.
The name, Scoil na Seolta, means school of the sails. This reflects our connection to shipbuilding in east Belfast, while also representing our children sailing off on their educational journey together.
The Naíscoil set sail in October 2021, with a nursery school, based in Christian Fellowship Church in east Belfast. In September 2022, the Naíscoil moved to Garnerville Presbyterian Church.
In September 2023, we welcomed our first intake of pre-school children.
From September 2025, the Bunscoil will open with our first cohort of Primary One children. This will be Northern Ireland’s first Integrated school teaching through Irish, in new purpose-built premises.
We are excited to offer your child the opportunity to take their first steps towards bilingualism and we are excited to welcome your family into our dedicated and thriving, school community.
Because of our central emphasis on integration, we work closely with the Northern Ireland Council for Integrated Education (NICIE). We also work with Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta and Altram who specialise in early years Irish-medium education.
We are grateful for any donations towards Bunscoil and Naíscoil resources.
